Objective To get the message about nutritional knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) level of pupils living in Jintan and the influencing factors to them and to provide a basis for nutritional education of school children. Methods A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted among 462 students from grade 5 in 3 primary schools in Jintan. Results The passing rates of nutrition knowledge, attitude and practice were 44.5%, 84.6% and 86.9%, respectively. The subjects lacked a better understanding about the Dietary Guidelines and nutrition knowledge related to health. The factors affecting nutrition knowledge, attitude and practices were mainly maternal educational background, children gender and school. There was relativity among nutrition knowledge, attitude and practice. The nutrition information of subjects was mostly from teachers, parents, radio and television Conclusion Jintan city pupils lack nutritional knowledge, especially professional knowledge. Illegitimate dietary pattern exist generally. However, they have a good attitude to improve unhealthy eating patterns. It is extremely necessary to strengthen the nutritional education for schoolchildren, enhance pupils’ knowledge level and change their bad dietary behaviors. |
