Objective: To explore the changes in fat mass with age in adult males and females in selected areas of Jiangsu Province,as well as the relationship between body fat index(BMI) and fat mass in different age groups. Methods: Data from physical examination participants in Nanjing,Huai'an,and Wuxi,Jiangsu province from September 2019 to February 2021 were collected, and physical and body composition examinations were conducted for eligible individuals. Results: Basic information was collected from 2 115 volunteers, among whom 46 with incomplete information were excluded,2 069 individuals were enrolled into the analysis. Regardless of gender, fat free mass(FFM) decreased with age in adults over 30 years of age. Body fat mass(BFM),percentage of body fat(PBF),waist-hip ratio(WHR),and fat mass index(FMI) all showed an increasing trend with age in adults over 30 years of age, with a significant increase in BFM,PBF,and FFM percentage at the age of 40. FFM and FFMI began to significantly decrease at the age of 60. Male body fat index showed a significant increase at the age of 40,while female body fat index showed a significant increase at the age of 60. FFM showed an increasing trend with higher BMI and waist circumference levels in adults of all ages. Conclusion: With increasing age, both males and females show an upward trend in BFM,PBF,and WHR. Among different age groups, adult males exhibit significantly higher FFM than females, while females have significantly higher BFM,FMI,PBF,and visceral fat area than males. Across all age groups,FFM increases along with BMI and WHR. |
