Objective: To investigate the expression of HPV18E7 and p16 proteins in oral cavity of oral cancer patients and its relationship with clinical stage and pathological grade of oral cancer. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of HPV18E7 and p16 in oral tissues of 173 oral cancer patients, 98 oral cancer precancerous lesions and 79 normal peritumoral tissues, and analyze the expression of HPV18E7 and p16 proteins with the oral clinical stages and pathological graded oral cavity. Results: The positive expression rate of HPV18E7 and p16 in oral cancer group were 81.5% (141/173) and 23.7% (41/173), 39.8% (39/98) and 57.1% (56/98) in the oral cancer precancerous lesion group, 2.5% (2/79) and 89.9% (71/79) in the normal tissue group. The positive expression rate of HPV18E7 and p16 were different in the three groups. HPV18E7 had the highest positive expression in oral cancer, and p16 had the lowest positive expression in oral cancer, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). With the increase of clinical stage and pathological grade of oral cancer patients, the positive expression of HPV18E7 increased, and the positive expression of p16 decreased, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: Compared with normal precancerous lesions and normal tissues of oral cancer, the positive expression of HPV18E7 protein was higher and p16 protein is lower in oral carcinoma tissues than that in oral precancerous tissues and normal tissues. There are significant differences in the expression of HPV18E7 protein and p16 protein in different clinical stages and pathological grades of oral carcinoma. HPV18E7 protein and p16 protein may be involved in the carcinogenesis and development of oral carcinoma. |
