Objective:To evaluate curative outcomes of Er:YAG laser conbined with calcium hydroxide in indirect pulp treatment for young permanent teeth. Methods:A total of 126 patients with deep caries of mandibular first permanent molars (49 men and 77 female, the range of age was from 14 to 16 years old, and 189 teeth) were randomly divided into Ca(OH)2 group, Er:YAG laser group and Er:YAG laser conbined with Ca(OH)2 group. The cavities were treated with calcium hydroxide, Er:YAG laser or both of them, respectivly.All patients were visited at 1 week, 6 months, 12 months after the treatment for clinical and X-ray examination. Results:After 1 week and 6 month follow-up, the success rate of indirect pulp treatment among the three groups had no statistical significance (P>0.05). After 12 month follow up, the success rate of indirect pulp treatment among the three groups had statistical significance (P<0.05) and the order of success rate from high to bottom was Er:YAG Laser conbined with Ca(OH)2 group, Er:YAG laser group, and Ca(OH)2 group. Conclusion:Combination of Er:YAG laser and calcium hydroxide can achieve better long-term outcomes for indirect pulp capping on young permanent teeth with deep carious lesions and reduce the incidence of pulpitis and periapical disease effectively. |
