Objective To explore the effects of advanced glycosylation end products (AGEs) on the expression of regulated upon activation, normal T cell expressed and secreted (RANTES) in cultured human renal mesangial cells (HRMC). Method AGEs-BSA was prepared by incubating bovine serum albumin (BSA) with glucose. The cultured HRMC (10 6) were intervened with the same concentrations of AGEs-BSA and BSA. The RANTES level in supernatant was measured by ELISA. Result Compared with the BSA group, the concentration of RANTES in medium began to increase at 8-h and reached the peak at 48-h after intervention with AGEs-BSA ( 640 mg·L -1) (P< 0.01). Conclusion It seems that AGEs-BSA stimulates the secretion of RANTES in cultured HRMC in a time-dependent manner.
