Objective To observe the relationship between telomerase activity in acute leukemia in different stages and the prognosis of the disease.Method To semi quantitatively determine the telomerase activity by means of TRAP ELISA.Results (1)No significant difference of telomerase activity in acute leukemia(AL) is found between the disease at primary stage and at first complete remission(CR) stage. While the difference between the disease at primary stage and three months after first CR is of significance.(2)A sustained high activity of telomerase suggests a short remission period and an unfavorable prognosis at three months after CR.Conclusion Telomerase activity at three months after CR may serve as one of the parameters of the prognosis of the disease. There is no relationship between the premorbid telomerase activity and the prognosis.
