Objective To determine the efficacy and safety of misoprostol as an induction agent for the initiation of labour in women at term. Methods Eighty pregnant women in 37~42 +2 gestational weeks, who had clear clinical indications for labour induction were randomly divided into two groups.Pregnant women in group A( n =40) were induced for the initiation of labour with misoprostol, while the women in group B( n =40) were induced for initiation of labour with oxytocin. Results Spontaneous delivery rate of group A was significantly higher than that of group B( P <0.005).Total times of delivery were shorter in group A than in group B( P <0.05).Neonatal prognosis did not show any significant differences between the two groups. Conclusion Misoprostol is a safe, convenient, efficient induce agent for initiation of labour at term. |
