Objective To investigate the clinical use of carotid angioplasty and stenting(CAS) for carotid artery stenosis under protected devices. Methods 30 embolic protection devices and 34 self-expandable stents were used in the treatment of 30 patients with carotid artery stenosis. Results 96.7% of stent were successfully implanted without major complications or minor stroke during and after the treatment.Follow-up Doppler color imaging did not find asymptomatic re-stenosis in 24 patients 3 months after the treatment. Conclusion CAS under protected devices is a safe and effective method to treat carotid artery stenosis. The long-term effect needs to be further observed, and treatment technique and materials awaits a further improvement.
