Objective To find the relationship between serum leptin concentration and malnutrition in gastric cancer patients. Methods The serum leptin concentration, body mass index(BMI),normal weight%,triceps skin-fold thickness(TSF),mid-arm circumference(MAC),albumin(ALB) and lymphocyte count(LYM) of 37 gastric cancer patients and 11 normal control were determined. The gastric cancer patients were divided into malnutrition group(14 cases)and non-malnutrition group(23 cases); Results The serum leptin concentration of all patients(48 cases) were positively correlated with BMI,NW%,TSF and MAC(P<0.001),not with ALB and LYM;Serum leptin concentration in malnutrition group were significantly lower than non-malnutrition group and control group, there were no difference between male and female. Conclusion The serum leptin levels in gastric cancer malnutrition are lower than non-malnutrition and normal group, which can be one of the diagnostic criteria for malnutrition. |
