Objective To investigate the efficiency and complications of invasive treatment of intertrochanteric fracture using Gamma-3 nails.Method Between 1 January 2007 and 30 April 2008,38 cases of intertrochanteric fracture underwent closed reduction and were fixed with Gamma-3 nails. All the patients were followed up for 6~12 months. After the fracture was healed clinically, the hip function was evaluated according to the Harris criteria. Results All the 38 cases of fracture were healed. The time for fracture healing was 3~6 months. No severe complications, such as femur shaft fracture, screw cut-out of femur head or hip varus occurred.89.4% of the total 38 cases achieved good or excellent hip function. Conclusion Closed reduction and fixation with Gamma-3 nails is a safe and effective treatment for intertrochanteric fracture.
