clefts lip/ palate are the most common craniofacial birth defects and one of the most common congenital malformations in humans with the complex pathogenesis, currently attributed to genetic factors and environmental factors together. In this paper, we review the most prominent genes for nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate(NSC/P) in the context of the expression of genes associated with cleft lip/ palate.
